"A" Is For Americano - Or Something Highly Caffeinated

This month I am participating in the A to Z Blogging Challenge.  And, after giving it a great amount of thought, I discovered the perfect theme: the theme of not having a theme!  HUZZAH!

My approach is simple.  I will continue doing what I normally do, but the title of each post will be linked to the designated letter of the alphabet.  I want new visitors to get to know me; forcing creativity that hasn't arrived naturally would be unfair and fraudulent.  For me, the true challenge will be completing the posts and finding time to visit some new people each day.  Wish me luck!

For those who do not know, I am currently crawling through the climax of my first YA contemporary.  So, my weekend plans revolve around ambitious writing goals, with a smidgen of time allotted for crying, screaming, and the occasional temper tantrum.  And, the UK game, of course, which I'll talk about tomorrow.

On weekends, I frequently write in cafes at local bookstores.  It gets me out of the house while still being productive.  And I have constant access to caffeine, a requirement for productive writing in my book.

When I write, there is always coffee next to me.  ALWAYS.  I never had a "usual," though I seem to be on an Americano kick.  I've noticed myself ordering them more often the past few months.

What is your writing beverage of choice?  Or, what is always next to you during a writing session?

  1. I don't have a preferred choice of drink for writing. However, I do enjoy iTunes playing in the background or the occasional television show.

  2. I like the way you are approaching the challenge. In answer to your question which btw I think is a great thing to put on posts to spur conversation. I actually don't have a beverage of choice I have cookie dough or chips next to me...healthy I know :)

    good start so far

  3. I like your approach.

Mine is even more random. I'm begging readers to throw words at me, and I'll use them as prompts for my posts. I've done the first one....but I need loads of help with prompts if I am to get anywhere. Terrified.

    Following your blog now.

  4. I can't write without coffee. Or, at least, I can't write *well*. So it's definitely my beverage of choice!

  5. I don't drink coffee (becasue it tastes like mud, you people are al mad). Nice cup of tea for me.

i think "crying, screaming, and the occasional temper tantrum" would be good for the letter 'C' (or for the title of my biography).

  6. So very envious, love your bookstores with coffee, nothing like that here, how I long to return to Barnes and Noble in Atlanta... sigh..

  7. Great post. I really enjoy your "Voice". I love the smell of coffee, but I've never liked to drink it. For me, chocolate is a must. A pound of M&M's and a diet beverage cancel each other out, right?

  8. I love Americanos. I'm just a coffee drinker at heart, but when I have extra change to spend at Starbucks I go for the Americano.

  9. In the morning theres nothing quite better than a nice, relaxing, healthy mug of foamy cappuccino to put the spring back in your step.

  10. If you A to Z people think you're going to get me to read blogs on Saturdays, you're crazy. Just kidding (mostly).

I wish I had time to take part, it's such an epic idea.

  11. Now I want to go to starbucks! I try and limit my coffee to 4 cups a day so when I surpass my limits I turn to water.

look forward to more randomness in your A to Z

  12. I used to always drink at least 2 Monster energy drinks. These days however I'm content to have brewed ice tea without the suger (and the sodium from the energy drinks). I don't feel weighed down and it's just enough refreshment to slack my thirst. Do I write better, I think somewhat. I'm not writing under a massive buzz and rushing.

As for the A-Z Challenge good luck. I tried the every day blogging thing once upon a time, not for me. (Hugs)Indigo

  13. Great idea for a blog theme! In fact, I think another one of my blogspot pals is doing this. She posted about it this a.m.

If I were starting the alphabet, I prob would've posted about Amaretto Cream. My drink of choice. But I swear, it's not a daily ritual or anything. Heh. Good luck on the challenge. It'll be interesting to see what you come up with next!

Oh, and sending up good vibes for your WIP. :-)

  14. Coffee with one cream! It's at my side every morning when I write. I'm a Starbucks mom (still hoping they come out with a T-shirt for us Sbucks parents), so I snag coffee beans regularly from my kids. Vernona seems to be my favorite. Love your blog. Coffee and books; what a great pairing! See you next time.

  15. I like your blog. Coffee... What a tantalyzing aroma but I tend to have a glass of carrot juice, which I'm always afraid is going to spill into the computer.

  16. I usually drink hot chocolate (Winter),if anything, while I'm writing. Summer equates a nice glass of lemonade of fruit juice. Also, *cheers* for contemporary YA. I feel like it's endangered sometimes :)

  18. Here are the things I MUST have when I write:
    1. My laptop
    2. Hot tea with milk/sugar (made by my hubby)
    3. The Bible (for inspiration)
    4. Warmth (right now the wood stove is on)

  19. In summer my beverage of choice is water. In winter it's herbal tea. I don't drink coffee *gasp*

  20. Go team not having a theme. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be doing it otherwise. :)

  21. I like your theme. That's the usual theme on my blog : )

Just visiting from the challenge...good luck with your writing!

  22. What a great way to start the Challenge! As for what I need for writing - my iPod and either water, decaf, or Coke zero. Good luck!

  23. Greetings fellow coffee patriot. I drink coffee until I start to jitter, than I go for a british tea time, than maybe a glass of wine or two than back to coffee. Terrible cycle, I know....But...If I don't have something to stuff into the hole on my face, whether it be drink or food, then I am afraid I would just not have enough battery juice to keep me typing this jibberish I have become so fond of.

  24. I cannot write without Diet Coke; I dare say I cannot exist without it. :-)
I like the commenter who suggested "chips and cookie dough." It may not be healthy, but it sounds scrumptious!

  26. Not only can I not write without my coffee...I don't think I could function normally without it.

  27. Americano... that's my drink of choice. I use to have an espresso machine at home, but it broke :( after I worked it do death.

  28. I'm an americano man myself mate, though I tend to drink coffee at work and tea when I'm at home and writing. I'm not sure why that is ...

Austin, an espresso machine at home would kill me. I'm quite certain my heart would explode.

  29. Thank you for all the great responses. I have a feeling that, for the duration of this challenge, I'm not going to have much success responding to individual comments. But, I am reading and enjoying all of them.

Also, as I stated in my post, I'm really trying to wrap up my manuscript. I'll be setting aside time each day to 'make the rounds.' If I didn't get to your place today, I will be visiting soon. Promise!

  30. Nice to meet you; My skinny Cappuccino with a splash of 1/2 n' 1/2 serves me well if hot then Iced coffee or tea. I sometimes wish I could have an IV of coffee, but my family wouldn't like it much. I talk fast enough, without caffeine and I'm from New England. It isn't pretty, that's all I'm saying. Nice to meet you~

  31. Tea is my choice of drink. I like your ideas for this challenge. I'm going to try and practice my fiction writing this month and see how that goes.
